My Favorite Things This Week

1. Tween music
It's just so catchy. I don't care if it's Disney pop and I have the play list of a 13 year old. It makes me feel good and isn't that all that's important?

And how gorgeous is her make-up. I want that smokey eye.

2.  Capes.

I loved them last year when they were only made by high-end designers and I'm still in love now they are at Loft.

3. Grey nail polish

Less goth girl than black and previous year's dark purple. Essie's Chinchilly is just the right shade - not too light, not too dark. It almost changes colors in different lights. And did I mention I've gotten more compliments on it than any other shade I've worn recently?

4. Fall

I'm not a fall girl. I love summer. I don't even care if it's hot. I live in the south we grow up on warm weather and sweet tea - a hundred degrees is nothing an AC and a cute tank top can't fix. That being said, our AC is broken so a little cool breeze would be nice. I'm thinking jeans and flip flop weather. Plus there's something kind of fun about getting pumpkins and preparing for all the holidays.

Photos from a Google search.

5. This commercial...

I know it's old - it came out in the Superbowl. But I still love my Jetta and I still think this is the best commercial of 2011. And in honor of Jetta's being one of the top ten cars sold in 2011 - this commercial makes my list. Good job VW! :)

Week 24 of the 52 Week Challenge

So I know late again. I promise to be better. I just need to de-stress first. This week - try something new. I've already got my new thing planned. I'm going white water rafting on Saturday. How fun, right? So I'll let you guys know how it goes. I really want to take a camera but a. don't want shots of me in a bikini unless I photoshop my head on Jennifer Aniston's body and b. I don't want to damage my camera. I'm thinking I might get a disposable water camera - if I do I'll post those - minus the bikini shots of course!

And speaking of cameras for my birthday gift to myself I got a new camera (yay). I've been wanting one forever and had my eye on two Nikon's. I did all the research and I got... a Nikon I didn't research. The deal was great though - it does everything the camera I wanted does except the zoom is 7 instead of 10. But the camera came with a case and a memory card. It's so much smaller than my last camera and takes amazing photos. I'll try to take a few to post soon. But if I was doing a favorites post today - my favorite thing would be Nikon. I've had two digital cameras and one film camera from them and they all still work perfectly (ok one digital camera is like three days old so I hope it still works)! I've never had a problem with any of them. I was actually wishing my digital would die so I could have a reason to buy a new one!!!

Favorite Thing December 30

This week? A high-waisted dress from The Limited. I got it right before Christmas - I had a coupon and who doesn't buy presents from themselves. I like that it's work appropriate but could be fun too. I could make The Limited my favorite thing because I'm so obsessed with their clothes but alas I need to pick just one favorite this week.
I'm hoping I can score some really hot shoes to wear with it... but this week I wore it with black Nine West heels with little metal grommets (to punk it up a bit) and a short black suit jacket since it's just cap sleeves and 40 degrees outside and my new key necklace (hint my favorite thing for next week).

My Favorite Thing of the Week

This idea is my new weekly post. I figured Wednesday is a slow day and if I can’t write the rest of the week I can at least come up with a good post (or at least a mediocre post) every Wednesday. My idea is to highlight one thing that I like and hopefully you’ll try it and like it too.

So my favorite thing this week? I’m going to go for Project Runway. If you haven’t seen it, you should. Basically all these wanna-be designers compete to win a chance to show at fashion week (usually in NY but this year in CA). Then one designer is crowned the Project Runway winner.

Along the way they do these crazy challenges, like design a costume for Christina Aguilera, or maternity clothes, or pieces inspired by Michael Kor’s favorite places. My only complaint is this season Christina Aguilera and Lindsey Lohan were both guest judges. I like Aguilera but she doesn’t exactly scream relevant in the music industry and Lohan – really??? I don’t think anyone is looking to her for expert fashion advice. They’ve also had a ton of guest judges this season and I really like it better when it’s Heidi, Nina and Michael (then you can add a random guest judge but not all random guest judges except Heidi).

The designers all have attitude and think they are amazing and everyone else barely passed Home Economics. Usually by this point I would have a clear favorite but so far it’s more about the people I know I hate like this one girl Irena – she comes across as such a bitch a show. She just complains and trash talks everyone else and thinks her designs are so much better. The sad thing is she really is good but I don’t like her personality so I keep hoping they’ll kick her off.

I have to say I love Heidi Klum on Project Runway but Tim Gunn makes the show. My husband has been trying to get his impression of Gunn right ever since I started torturing him with the show (hey it’s payback for all that baseball and football he makes me watch). I would love to meet Gunn and pick his brain for all that wonderful fashion advice. I actually bought his book a few months ago and need to read it (I sense another book review…). For awhile he had another show on Bravo helping women learn how to dress and since I’m also a sucker for make-over shows I loved that too. Instead of What Not To Wear, where Stacey and Clinton (love them) basically trash these clueless fashion victims Gunn took a more gentle mentoring approach. He didn’t automatically toss all their clothes and send them semi-blind off with a credit card. He explained what worked and didn’t work for their body, gave them a list of classic pieces to buy, and then actually helped them keep some of their favorites by slightly altering the pieces so it worked for their body type.

Anyway, back to Project Runway, I think you’ll love it if you haven’t already watched it. Even if you’re not a huge fashion fan it’s amazing. I am in awe of how these people come up with the designs, buy the fabric and create actual clothes in a day. It’s almost enough to make me want to learn to sew…. Almost but not quite.

So even though there are only like three episodes left you have to check it out. It’s Thursdays at 10 on Lifetime.
